Round Timber Fencing
Natural Round timber fencing is very popular in Sussex and comes straight from local forests and coppiced woods as a tradtional woodland product.
The posts can be used in full rounds or cleft into half rounds. You can even choose large quarterd rounds on corners for returns. Posts are typically from 1.2 to 2.4 metres high (for fitting with 0.6m in the ground). Choose from homegrown Chestnut or Douglas Fir posts in full round or half round, with bark or de-barked, pointed or squared ( so much choice!).
The rails are cleft to give three sided irregular shaped lengths that, once shaped to fit a morticed post, create a very strong and durable boundary fence, suitable for residential use as well as livestock fencing. Rails are usually 3.6m long (including the shaped ends for fitting) in hand riven Chestnut, split fromthe round into thirds (for strength & lonegvity) and tapered to fit the mortice*.
