At English Woodlands Timber, we believe every kitchen starts with the right timber. That story begins in well-managed British forests and continues until it becomes part of a bespoke kitchen designed and built to last.

Based in Lewes, Inglis Hall is a studio renowned for creating handcrafted oak kitchens that balance traditional British craftsmanship with modern design. Their kitchens are more than just functional; they’re tactile, timeless, and designed to be enjoyed for a lifetime.

Bespoke Oak Kitchens, Made From Scratch

Founded in 2013, Inglis Hall operates from a 10,000 sqft workshop near Lewes, East Sussex. Every kitchen is designed, crafted, and installed entirely in-house, ensuring a seamless connection between design, materials, and execution. As a result, the quality remains consistent from concept to completion.

Toby Hall, founder and director, explains their ethos: “There are makers, and then there are makers. We take the term seriously.” There are no salespeople, receptionists, or outsourced production here. Instead, the people you meet are the same people crafting your kitchen, guaranteeing authenticity and uncompromised quality.

For many of their kitchens, Inglis Hall sources premium-grade timber in various sizes from English Woodlands Timber. This timber comes from responsibly managed British and European forests, ensuring traceability and sustainability throughout the process.

The Inglis Hall Approach

Inglis Hall is celebrated for its band-sawn oak cladding and use of natural materials, producing kitchens that feel both tactile and timeless. Every project balances function, materiality, and beauty. Because of their 30 years of expertise in cabinet making and timber framing, the team delivers kitchens that are as practical as they are visually stunning.

Inspiring Projects Across the UK

Georgian Manor, Edinburgh

Sometimes, leaving Lewes for a distant project sparks inspiration. Recently, Inglis Hall delivered a bespoke oak kitchen to a Georgian manor near Edinburgh, over 500 miles from their Sussex workshop. This project showcases how high-end kitchen design can harmonise with Scotland’s rugged coastal beauty.

Every element of the kitchen fits organically within the remodelled home. With subtle tones, natural oak, and textures that mirror the tundra-inspired colours of the shore, the kitchen becomes a warm, functional family space that perfectly complements its coastal setting.

Historic Country Manor, West Sussex

Closer to home, Inglis Hall transformed a historic West Sussex manor with a kitchen that celebrates both craftsmanship and thoughtful design. Using hand-sawn oak, burnished brass, and bespoke cabinetry, the space supports serious cooking, entertaining, and daily family life.

Over time, this kitchen matures beautifully. Subtle wear, everyday use, and lived-in charm create warmth and character that no showroom can replicate.

Seafront Victorian Apartment, Hove, West Sussex

In Hove, Inglis Hall crafted an effortlessly stylish kitchen in a Victorian apartment overlooking the English Channel. Their clients needed a kitchen that was flexible, functional, and visually light.

With timber supplied by English Woodlands, the drawers and surfaces maintain seamless beauty and long-lasting quality. The result is a calm, confident space that maximises light, functionality, and sea views. As the old song goes, “I Do Like to Be Beside the Seaside” and here, it feels wonderfully real.

Why Choose Inglis Hall for Your Bespoke Kitchen

Choosing an Inglis Hall kitchen is a commitment to quality. Every cabinet, countertop, and cladding piece is carefully crafted by skilled makers, designed to last a lifetime. These kitchens blend traditional craft, modern technology, and thoughtful design.
