Who are they, and what do they do?
For two decades, the team at Kraftwork have been creating bespoke kitchens and furniture, using the best materials and always ensuring the highest level of craftsmanship. From initial concepts through to manufacture and installation, Kraftwork offers a high-end service at every stage of the process – all under the watchful eye of master craftsman and company owner, Phillip Brown.
Having trained (and managed) at one of the UK’s top cabinet making workshops, Phillip has worked on projects at the House of Lords, Buckingham Palace and the National Trust. With over 25 years of experience, he has a great deal of wisdom to share, and in 2003, his mission was to bring his expertise to the world of kitchens and interior joinery.
Every Kraftwork project is navigated with the client’s specific needs in mind. Phillip understands that creating a bespoke kitchen is about listening, first and foremost. The Kraftwork team starts every project with a consultation, to discover precisely what you have in mind. Whether it’s already a fully realised design, or simply a general idea, the Kraftwork designers work closely with every client to create something wonderful – something perfect for the space. During this process, you’ll discuss materials and finishes, and the designers make suggestions for worktops and floor coverings, outlining every possibility to establish the best path to a successful finished product.
The team will then come up with final material samples, design drawings, and a quotation. In some instances, scale models are created, to help you visualise specific details. Once everybody is happy with the design, the materials are purchased and time is reserved for the build. Whether it’s a full kitchen, or a single piece of bespoke furniture, it is created with care and attention by one of the team’s master craftsmen. Clients are encouraged to visit the workshop, in order to see the fully assembled product before delivery.
Phillip oversees the installation of every project, to ensure the highest standards, with no exceptions. Once the job is completed, Kraftwork makes a point of keeping in touch, to make sure everything is exactly as it should be.
Phillip has worked with architects, contractors and designers to create kitchens for their award-winning houses, and their feedback is always glowing. Kraftwork was approached by Dawn and Jonathan Pooley, who were building a dream house to overlook Chichester harbour, and were looking for a specialist to create a bespoke kitchen that would align with their vision for a mid-century inspired scandinavian interior.
John Pardey Architects, who were overseeing the design and build of the house, suggested Kraftwork, having worked together on previous projects: “What sets Kraftwork apart is personal service, attention to detail and the most extraordinary finish — all at less than half the price of the quality German kitchens — creating beautiful hand-made kitchen with soul, that give so much pleasure to the home owners.”
Dawn and Jonathan were delighted. Not only with the process of designing the kitchen together, but also the finished product: “Working with Phil to design and build my dream kitchen was exactly that — a dream. From start to finish, he not only understood what I wanted, but also knew better than I how the kitchen needed to work for our lifestyle. Every idea, every suggestion made the kitchen even better than I had hoped it would be. And the whole process of the build was so education and enjoyable, being able to watch the kitchen come alive in the studio really made it possible to build the best kitchen imaginable.”
Kraftwork collaborates with English Woodlands Timber to produce eye-catching kitchens in a wide variety of wood, including oak and birch. Phillip uses our British Ash often, because the timber’s streamlined, crisp aesthetic aligns perfectly with contemporary interior design, and it’s versatile too – easily moulded to allow the Kraftwork team to meet bespoke designs for their clients.
