Western Red Cedar Cladding | Orchard Way Project, Sussex

Orchard Way is a small, well-crafted development of four houses. Each home features traditional Sussex detailing, with brick on the ground floor and timber cladding above. The project was led by Hugo Sturt of Old Rock Ltd.

As a trusted local timber supplier, we proudly provided Sussex-grown Western Red Cedar for the cladding. We cut the timber fresh sawn into 25/10 x 200mm featheredge boards, allowing minimal sap for a cleaner finish. The Cedar cladding was fixed to Cedar battens and installed with a 35mm overlap.

Careful craftsmanship defined this build. Rebated corner posts and diagonally cut board ends allowed for tight, precise joints. While the featheredge profile is traditional, the crisp detailing has given the homes a sleek, modern finish.

A year after completion, the cladding has already begun to weather to a silver-grey, highlighting the natural beauty of the Cedar. The low sap content and attention to fitting suggest that this cladding will achieve durability class 4, ensuring long-term performance.
