Fresh Sawn Western Red Cedar Cladding

A compact development of four houses with traditional Sussex facades of brick faced ground floor and timber clad first floor by Hugo Sturt of Old Rock Ltd.

Sussex grown Western Red Cedar was fresh sawn into a 25/10 x 200mm featheredge boards with minimal sap allowance, fixed to Cedar battens and laid with a 35mm overlap. Carefully detailed with rebated corner posts and diagonally ended boards to allow tight fitting.

Whilst featheredge is a traditional profile, the attention to detail has produced a clean contemporary finish. Pictured here a year after completion the cedar is weathering down to a silver grey.

The care taken in fitting and sap exclusion indicates that the cedar will achieve a durability class of 4 over its lifetime.
