Alex Findlater Ltd, a London-based specialist in bespoke building and joinery, was asked to create an immersive dining space for the WOW event at Chelsea Harbour. The brief focused on natural textures, earthy tones, and organic design elements. The goal was to create a serene yet inviting environment.
The design, conceptualised by Suzy Hoodless, drew inspiration from the landscapes of Cornwall and the graceful Monterey Pine trees. The result is a space that balances natural elegance with skilled craftsmanship.
Timber Selection: Cedar of Lebanon
At the heart of the project was Cedar of Lebanon, carefully hand-selected by Alex Findlater Ltd in collaboration with English Woodlands Timber. The raw, untreated timber was chosen for its natural grain, rough-sawn edges, and earthy colour. These qualities enhanced the room’s organic aesthetic.
“Hand selecting the perfect timber for our projects contributes to getting the best results possible,” explains Alex Findlater Ltd. This highlights how high-quality timber plays a crucial role in achieving exceptional design outcomes.
Design & Construction
The room’s centrepiece is a series of timber screens made entirely from raw Cedar of Lebanon. In line with the earthy theme, the timber was left untreated. Alex Findlater Ltd cut the screens with a chainsaw to create a rugged, natural look. This method added a tactile quality to the space and complemented the jungle-inspired wallpaper.
Additionally, Alex Findlater Ltd completed the entire room – including carpet, wallpaper, tiling, electrics, painting, and decorating – in under a week. This rapid turnaround demonstrates their strong project management skills and commitment to high-quality bespoke solutions.
Project Impact
The completed space, named ‘Of the Earth’, provides a welcoming environment for socialising and relaxation. At night, the room transforms into a warm dining area. Guests can unwind and enjoy a unique atmosphere defined by natural textures and earthy motifs.
By sourcing premium Cedar of Lebanon from English Woodlands Timber, Alex Findlater Ltd elevated the project with timber of exceptional quality. The screens became a standout feature and a signature element of the design.
Conclusion
This project shows the power of collaboration between a skilled joiner and a premium timber supplier. English Woodlands Timber supplied the raw materials, and Alex Findlater Ltd turned them into a functional, beautiful space. Together, they created a project that impressed both clients and visitors at Chelsea Harbour.
For bespoke timber projects, interiors, or joinery, this collaboration proves that careful material selection and expert craftsmanship make all the difference.
