Bespoke Oak Kitchen by Inglis Hall & English Woodlands Timber

At English Woodlands Timber, we are proud to supply the premium oak that helps bring exceptional projects to life. One such project is Renton Hall, a Georgian manor near Edinburgh, where Inglis Hall designed and crafted a bespoke oak kitchen that blends heritage, contemporary design, and natural beauty.

This case study explores how thoughtful design, superior materials, and sustainable sourcing created a family kitchen that feels perfectly at home on Scotland’s dramatic coastline.

The Design Challenge

Delivering a kitchen 500 miles from Lewes was no small task. Early conversations explored compromises, but the clients and Inglis Hall agreed on one principle: the kitchen would be designed, crafted, and installed by the team themselves.

With a 1,000-mile round trip between site and workshop, the project relied on:

  • Zoom calls and postal coordination
  • Careful scheduling of site visits
  • Meticulous project management

The result was a kitchen that integrates seamlessly into Renton Hall, designed for family living, entertaining, and quiet moments alike.

Materials That Respect Place

The design takes inspiration from the landscape. Subtle tones, natural oak, and tactile textures echo the tundra-like colours of the nearby shoreline. Nothing is showy or overworked, every element serves a purpose, creating a space that feels warm, understated, and timeless.

It is a kitchen for gathering, eating, and enjoying the ever-changing light of the Scottish coast.

Our Role: Supplying Premium Oak

For many of their kitchens, Inglis Hall turns to English Woodlands Timber for high-quality, sustainably sourced oak, and Renton Hall was no exception. We supplied prime grade wide oak flooring blanks in various sizes, ideal for creating seamless kitchen components. By sourcing timber from responsibly managed British and European forests, Inglis Hall was able to combine sustainability with superior craftsmanship in every element of the kitchen.

The Result

The finished kitchen is a masterclass in balance: intelligent, elegant, and quietly confident. It reflects the couple’s vision for a modern home that honours its historic roots while feeling entirely of its place on the Scottish coast.

It is more than a kitchen – it is the heart of a restored family home. For Inglis Hall, it proves what commitment to craft and material can achieve. And for English Woodlands Timber, it is a privilege to know our oak forms part of this story of design, sustainability, and enduring beauty.
