Why Air Dried Oak Cladding?
The project originally considered fresh sawn oak due to its lower cost. However, concerns over potential warping and movement led to the selection of oak cladding instead. This material offers greater stability and is ideal for precise architectural finishes.
A 22 x 100mm square edge section was chosen, planed and installed vertically in a board-on-board format. The untreated oak cladding is fixed to battens using austenitic stainless steel screws, allowing it to age gracefully and silver over time as it weathers naturally.
