In one of our latest reels, we follow that journey with the talented team from Attica Studios. They visited our yard to hand-select timber for their next project. Based in Horsham, Attica creates timeless furniture rooted in heritage design and a deep respect for natural materials. Their Santiago Collection, crafted from English and French Oak and Walnut, reflects everything we stand for: sustainability, craftsmanship, and the value of choosing well.
The Santiago Collection: Design with Depth and Heritage
The Santiago Scalloped Collection blends elegant simplicity with the rich texture of scalloped edges. Made using Oak and Walnut from our yard, these pieces offer a tactile combination of modern craftsmanship and traditional storytelling.
The collection takes its name from the scallop shell of St. James, a symbol of the St. James’ path. It’s a tribute to the Portuguese roots of Attica’s founders and their cultural heritage, transformed into functional, beautiful furniture.
Each piece, from sideboards to chests and bedside tables, celebrates the natural character of the wood. Knots, pips, ripples, and rich grain patterns are embraced. The result is a body of work that feels grounded and refined – personal, purposeful, and made to be passed down.
The Value of Visiting in Person
One of the things that sets English Woodlands Timber apart is our open yard. We invite makers to come and self-select. Attica visited our West Sussex yard to browse full boules, inspect square edge stock, and handle the timber they planned to use.
This hands-on process helps makers connect with the material. It’s not just about specifications – it’s about seeing the grain, feeling the weight, and choosing timber with confidence and inspiration.
Why the Right Timber Matters
Attica Studios doesn’t choose timber based only on appearance. They want wood that:

We support this by sourcing from responsibly managed British and European forests. We grade each piece by hand and season it carefully. That way, when Attica picks a board, they know it has been cared for from forest to finish.
